About Dinosaur Facts
Dinosaur Facts draws each dinosaur at true size beside a person, so a number like “12 metres” becomes something you can see. It covers 452 genera from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
Where the data comes from
Names, ages and locations come from the Paleobiology Database (CC BY 4.0), reorganised by this site. Lengths, masses and hip heights are estimates compiled and normalised here from published figures; where studies disagree the page shows the range. Entries flagged as rough rest on fragmentary remains.
The silhouettes
Outlines are simplified shapes for each body type, scaled to the estimated length. They show proportion, not appearance: feathers, colour, posture detail and soft tissue are not depicted. Where a skeleton is incomplete, the outline is a best guess.
Using the tools
The explorer filters by period, diet, place, group and length. The compare tool sets up to six dinosaurs beside people, buses and whales. The timeline shows when each lived. See records for extremes.
